As it happens in the sequel I have woven my accident and subsequent rescue into the story – pretty much as it happened, though with names, callsigns etc changed. I’m just waiting for a final proof from my publisher and I will get it posted inm kindle.
As for the dunker – I absolutely loved it, but thankfully never had to do it for real. Nearest I got was when the ship (Hermes) sailed in the opposite direction to the one it had told us before take off. Four hours later we went back to where it should have been and it wasn’t there. Very nearly ran out of fuel looking for her!!!!!
When were you in and for how long? I managed 1979 – 1989 then transferred to the RAF and onto Tornados. Would you believe in my 10 years flying in the RN I never had a major incident. In the RAF I crashed in two tornados and had lots of other near misses and scrapes. Great flying though – real Topgun stuff – my inspiration for the transfer in the first place! Just didn’t expect to do a Goose!
seems it does, I was an army brat, from NI, grew up in Cyprus then Germany. Trained as a medical assistant, worked in RNH Plymouth, then went to CDO Logs Regt RM, spent 4.5 years, then to RNAS Yeovilton, they made me do dunker tank, I hated it lol, offered a ride in a hawk! no thanks! Ian I am the real person! and it would be nice to be friends with you and your family xxxx
hi Ian, Mel again, not stalking I promise lol, I just have two thoughts for you to consider, your buy books link has an awful lot of red in it, they are not links, so i think it would read easier in plain black, red is a colour blind cat, and with blue and all the links, well as I said only a suggestion.
My second is more delicate, I champion children, (well I dont really lol) but i feel their charities are important!) I would guess a lot of people in the UK would send money to these charities, your background, and your books, i think, in my opinion, are far more suited, to donating money to either help for heroes, or indeed, at any time of the year, you dedicate money to the regiment etc, on the ground. Its just my thoughts, but it could be a way to get you promoted, and find yourself new characters, and you get the chance to make a story of our real soldiers (etc) and their losses, just an idea, but, hey mate, your the author, hugs to your family and you, hope I got you thinking! Mel x
Thanks for your thoughts. As you can see I have taken your advice on the first point. As for the second I appreciate where you’re coming from but I’ll stick with the charities I have chosen at the moment.
just managed to purchase the first book off Amazon, but can only get the next one by ekimble but we want paperback, can you let us know how to get this please
BTW Terry is looking forward to the next scotch with you and i need to go shopping with your wife
Hi Ian, well bought Frozen in Time last night, almost halfway through, and seriously, why would anyone ever want to fly with Harry lol, loving the story btw.
Anyway, I had three emails in my spam, how I found your book, two were or looked like real real spam, the third had a subject message:DO NOT open “Take care and good luck” – not from me!!!!
You were listed as the sender, so of course I did open it, and it did give a link to this website, not quite sure if you have a glitch, or what, thought you may like to know, not that I am complaining to much! since i have spent a lazy sunday reading your book!
Loved Frozen in Time, finished it tonight, loved the ending, hope to learn more about the history, regarding the Ring! either in the next book, or a 4th! well done, Cant wait for the next.
As a reader and Author, your cover art draws me in. Time and again has a helicopter on it and Frozen in time has an old sailing ship on it. That’s the type of cover art that grabs me and makes me pick the book up and read more.
I spent 8 years in the Bering Sea as a ships medic and I’m also a scrimshaw artist which is heavy on the nautical images.
Hope you are both well. I’ve just been bought a Sony E-Reader so am downloading all my new books. I would love to read your book and would be very interested to read the sequels, especially the one you say contains your own crash experience, though I’ve probably heard a lot of the funnier stories!
Hi Ian
Just got your link through Susan on facebook and would love to read and review your book but think i might just have to buy the paperback as well so its on my bookshelf !!!
Hi Ian,
I just finished the Kindle edition of Time and Again and I really enjoyed it. I do have one little criticism, however. When your characters are Americans, they need to speak American. i.e. someone from the states would never say, “you lot” They would say, “you people” or “you guys”. If they were from the south, they would say, “you all” (Texans would say ya’ll)
We don’t drive lorries, we drive trucks that tow trailers not wagons. Minor, I know, but it could help your sales if the colonists are happy.
What, you never heard, “U.S. and U.K. – two nations forever separated by a common language”?
Anyway, keep up the good work and thanks for your service and sacrifice. I retired from the US Army after 30 years but I was never out on the sharp end of the stick as you were.
any chance you will write about your accident? its melissa btw lol! and you should have seen me doing dunker tank training, I hated every second!

Thanks Jim – I’ve taken your points on board and will get an American point of view for my next edit. Glad you enjoyed it despite those points.
